    Dreams
I had a dream the other night. Merlin, Eric, Dusty, and myself were attempting to put together a barbershop quartet. There were many detractors, the most vocal of who were Dani and my parents. It was somewhat like one of those old 80s movies - where a rag tag group of adorable miss fits over come the odds and mediocrity to make something great. Oh coarse, only after a montage. And indeed this dream came with a montage. We trained so hard that by the time were actually ready for a performance we looked almost haunted or ill, all the while facing the ridicule a laugher of those closest to us.

But then came the day - the reckoning as it were. We hard our songs perfected. I hadn't heard them in the dream yet, so that vague sense of observation one has in a dream was excited to see the performance. We had it all. The canes, the straw hats, the suspenders - everything. The lights at the venue lower as we came on the stage, arranged by height. The classic hush falls over the audience. Then, to the tune of "Goodbye my Coney Island Baby" we sing, "Bum, bum, bum - we're no strangers to love. You the rules, and so do I. ...I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling. Gotta make you understand. Never gonna give you up -" and so forth.

I got Rick Rolled by my own dream.

    Plug-in
I need to decide on my major by the end of the month. I asked my favorite professor for advice and he laid it out for me. Apparently he too was dispassionate and escape oriented when he was my age (he read frivolous books instead of playing video games though). He just picked a major and plowed through it. He never wanted to teach. The first year he'd throw up before lecturing everyday cuz he was so nervous - he just needed a job. Only years later has he found a passion for knowledge and a love of teaching.

The moral for Ian as far as choosing his major?

Pick one, plug-in, tune-out, and grind in to shape... and hope the shape suits me eventually.

Or - do something other than going to school.

    Nightwish
I know it's strange to post an entry at random after all this time but... there you go.

I went to a Nightwish concert in San Fransisco on Friday with my friend Phaedra (not her real name but it is her real SCA name). We arrived like 8 hours early so we got to meet some of the band members and stand right up front. We were about four feet away from and directly in front of the pianist. He made eyes at Phaedra and handed her a water bottle he drank out of during the encore. I have proximity to the prettiest ladies (Al). Got a little crushed being upfront and my legs hurt standing that long. For a little while after the concert it sounded like everyone had sucked down some helium - which I'm pretty sure is bad. But I had a great time - which I'm positive is good.

In other news my classes are going fine. Highest grade in and on this that and the other and so forth and blah blah blah. Getting kinda bored. Playing a lot of video games because of that. I have to decide on my major this month or else.

I've finally made some substantial friends out here which is cool. Single and happy about it for once.

Working at an art gallery doing installations. I don't have to do it often and it pays a lot - perfect.

    Remind me...
Alright, so now that the semester is over and I have time to myself, I am trying to reconnect with said self. It's turning out to be a lot harder than I thought. Does anyone want to remind me of some of the characteristics and interests by which ya'll have defined me? Seriously... I can't remember.

    I did a bad thing...
...but that doesn't make me a bad person.

    Little things
The heater in my car doesn't blow hot air until set to 90 degrees.
It does not blow hot air for about ten minutes.
After five of these ten minutes, the fan turns all the way up and blasts me with cold air.

The pillow in front of the TV has shaped to my body since I got Final Fantasy XII.
It still smells like my dear, sweet, dead dog.

When I changed my main photo on myspace, my number of page views went up by nearly 100.

I only have to take one final.

    Final Fantasy
I just want everyone to know that Final Fantasy XII is the best Final Fantasy game yet. ...well actually, strike the word game from that sentence. Thanks to a player-programmable AI, the game kinda plays itself. ...Final Fantasy XII is the best Final Fantasy movie yet.

    Dream
Last night I dreamt I was standing on Peavy Road, outside Eric's house. It was the middle of the night, there were no cars in earshot, and the rain had just stopped. I could see my breath. I was hitting golf balls down the empty street.

I'm not sure why, but that is one of the best dreams I've ever had.

    Photogenic
I just uploaded my first batch of photos to the AGS website. If anyone is curious what I look like now, you still won't know cuz there aren't any good pictures of me. The one in which I am a plainly visible, key element is of me after dancing for a good half hour, after a night in which I slept less than a half hour. Still, check out how photogenic the Honor Society is. Attractive bunch, them.

Click the "My Files and Images" tab.
It's a crappy website, so if you take a look at page 2, you'll have to click the tab again to actually have the images display.

    AGS Fall Confrence
I just got back from the AGS Fall Conference. UnFUCKING believable. Best time I've had since I moved to California (other than visiting home and all that). The conference itself I can take or leave (other than the swing dancing lesson), it's the night before at the hotel with all the AGS members that was incredible.

Some of the G rated highlights:
-Doing jumping jacks with one girl six feet from traffic while getting gas.
-Despite a one hour delay due to getting lost, still arriving before the other car load of members.
    -The punks of Modesto, CA.
    -Discussing Kurt Vonnegut over dinner.
    -Learning to swim, for real.
-Everybody playing in the hotel pool with their cloths on, save two members that thought to bring swimsuits.
-The V.P. hip checking a car door closed in an attempt to save a stranger’s battery (the inside lights were on), and being met with a car alarm.
-Everybody hanging out in one room and getting a noise complaint.
-Moving to another room with no adjoining guests and getting another noise complaint.
-Staying up until 5am, despite the conference the next day.
-Swing dancing with the V.P. and our advisor.
-Everyone, including our advisor, wanting to leave the conference early.
-Going on one hour of sleep right now and feeling like I've got the petal to the metal.

This was not what I signed up for when I joined AGS. I am most pleased.

    AGS
I'm almost ashamed to say it, but I love AGS. The weekly meetings have become the part of the week I look forward to the most. I never thought I'd enjoy being part of a group who's aim was something more than 'chillaxing.'
We've got a great president, JP O'Brian. A guy as handsome and charming as he is effective as a leader.
Our VP is also great. Erin Debore. As tantalizing as she is talented.
All the other cabinet positions in the group are filled by me and one Guenever Powers. We are, neither of us, as attractive or charming as our leaders, but are apparently two of the few members of this chapter ever to successfully hold multiple cabinet positions... probably because of our massive amounts of free time.

I am the Historian and Public Relations Officer for AGS, Chi Chapter. I am MPC. Fuck me, I feel like a tool... a happy tool though.

    Lonely
I have started to open up to new friends here in sunny CA. Sure took long enough. I have a few good prospects for intellectual conversation infused with sheer foolishness. One thing stings - they're all women. I seem incapable of making relationships with males other than Eric.
'Anyone can be your brand new love.' Boy I hope so, cause I could use a wet kiss about now.

"No amount of coffee, no amount of cryin'
no amount of whiskey, no amount of wine,
No, no, no, nothing else will do

    ICC
Sitting at the Inter Club Council meeting was actually a lot of fun. I met the representatives for the sci-fi, fantasy, and tabletop game clubs. Pretty cool. ...except the fantasy club only has about three members... and I can't join because the meetings are during one of my classes.
    6:26 pm
    AGS
So our Inter Club Council rep can't make the ICC meeting today. For AGS to have our request for funding heard at the meeting, we have to have a rep there. Our rep asked me to go in her place. Do I have a choice? Not really.

    AGS
AGS is holding a 50/50 Drawing (raffle). Half of the money we raise in this drawing (raffle) goes to the winner. We're not allowed to call it a raffle because that makes it something like gambling, whereas calling it a drawing does not... right.

At any rate, in the first day, we've raised $210(!). The drawing (raffle) will being going on for 3 weeks. I stagger to think of the winnings which will be set on some poor pot smoker. Sitting in front of the Library for four hours, as I did today, I had a good deal of time to think about what it was we were doing. I also had a good deal of time to think about the fact that I sold (personally) a meager 20 tickets whereas an attractive young girl sold 70. I made the flyers for this event. They're posted over urinals and on the inside of stall doors across campus. People pissing decide they can throw away one dollar in the hopes of winning more, unconcerned with the fact that the other half of the proceeds will be paying for holiday decorations at two local hospitals. No one bought a ticket when I said, "The other half goes to community service, so either way you win." They did slow and turn back to the booth to buy when I said, "Tell your friends. The more people who enter, the more YOU could win."

    Son of a bitch.

I’m not doing this in the vein hope that some garlands and trees will cheer a cancer patient. I’m doing it because that cancer patient’s cheer (or lack thereof) looks good on an application.

It was a really fun day though, socializing with the people accompanying me at the booth. Bajador wants to be a dentist and there are only four universities that offer dentistry in California. Miriam said, “I see Ian in those pants and I just wanna strap him in.” I need a drink.

    Faust
I thought this part was a laugh riot.

    FAUST
But not a trinket, not a ring,
    to ornament my darling girl?

    MEPHISTOPHELES
I saw among them some such thing,
a kind of necklace made of pearl.

    FAUST
So it is well! I do not find it pleasant
to go to her without a present.

    MEPHISTOPHELES
It should not really trouble you
to have some pleasure gratis too.

Also, this was good. Faust and Mephistopheles are dancing at a devlish party.

    FAUST
Once came a lovely dream to me.
    I saw therein an apple tree;
Two lovely apples on it shone
They charmed me so, I climbed thereon.

    THE BEAUTY
    The little apples man entice
Since first they were in Paradise.
I feel myself with pleasure glow
That such within my garden grow.

Mephistopheles dances with the Old Witch.

    MEPHISTOPHELES
Once came a wanton dream to me.
    I saw therein a river tree;
    It had a monstrous hole;
'Twas huge, yet I was pleased with it.

    THE OLD WITCH
I proffer now my best salute
To you, knight with horse's foot!
Let me a proper cork prepare,
If him a big hole does not scare.

Among all the meaning, I'm glad even a heady, religious text has a few jokes.

    One A?
One A and nine Fs in the class? For fuck's sake it's only the second week. Get it together people.

Again finding myself head and shoulders ahead of the pack I am left with the question - How does one reconcile great potential with great depression? I dare not do for fear of being done. I dare not complete for fear I then must compete. Is it strange that all you see of a person save their eyes is dead material and in so many the eyes seem as well entombed? I'm angry and scared everyone. Forgive me my angst.
